His Luxury Vanity

This beautiful and very unique master suite was actually once a large roof deck with a skylight that helped light the sunroom below. In the far right of the photo you notice the walk-in shower has a glass panel that's lit up. That panel is actually one of two sand blasted Euro glass panels that was used to create a shaft. That glass shaft allows sunlight from a skylight on the new roof to help light up the shower as well as the sunroom below. So no, that is not a light behind the glass it's actually the sun!

We also used antiques that were discarded from a local mansion in the area to help bring an authentic look and feel to this new master suite. You'll notice the man's vanity has two antique concrete angels on either side that help holding up the granite vanity top. The modesty panel below the vanity is a reclaimed wrought iron piece that was once the suspended headpiece of a pergola entry to a local stately mansion. His Luxury Vanity

The Wash Park bungalow featured in this picture was built in the early 1900's.  However, by the time it was discoverd by the current owner, the property had undergone a less than favorable pop-top addition in the late 80's.

Design Build Dwellings, Inc. was commisioned to design and construct a refurbishment that would enhance the original character of the property and provide informal space for outdoor living.

The design of the upstairs master suite takes advantage of the wrap-around porch for a walk-out terrrace that continues the outdoor living theme below.

This shot was also taken from the mezzanine walkway with the master suite entrance to the rear.  This transformation combined an existing bedroom, kitchen, and back entry into a spacious kitchen tied to the main portions of the home by what visitors call "a sensual curved walkway and stairs."

We preserved the original design integrity of this turn-of-the-century house through the use of oversized crown molding throughout the kitchen. As this space was too narrow for a traditional island with cabinets on both sides yet too wide for a galley, we combined the styles by adding built-in cabinets along the right aside. By varying the cabinet depths to accent the crown, the room takes on a much more dramatic fee.  The addition of the corner cabinets to the right provided space in which to wrap modified height cabinetry around the end of the island, breaking up an otherwise long and oversized-looking counter top.

We began by raising the ceiling of this kitchen to help adjust the scale of this very wide room.  By using multiple heights for the counters and cabinets, as well as by changing the depth of the cabinets, we created a more interesting look. The bay window was added and brought down to the countertop's level to give fluidity to the shift from indoors to outdoors.

The kitchen design stemmed from a desire to include the dining area into the main flow of the kitchen without sacrificing storage space.  The glass cabinets in the pass-through area are frosted, allowing light to filter in, as wel as providing needed storage without sacrificing the flow of energy between the two spaces.

This view, shot from the mezzanine walkway leading to the master suite, shows the artistry and function of a job done by Design Build Dwellings, Inc. The room with the rug was once the backyard, and the curved stairs lead to a family room that was once a rear driveway that entered into a garage, two components of an addition that increased the home's square footage by 2,000 feet.

The elongated window and shower door create an illusion of height in this very tiny space.  The use of half walls in the shower gives privacy and locations for towel hangings and counters.  Clear glass in the shower combined with the open space below the vanity tops allow the eye to travel uninterrupted, again imparting the impression of space in this open 10' x 10' bath.
